Christmas is a great time to unwind and join in the festive fun taking place at various events held in and around St Albans. There will be more in-person activities compared to last year, so take a look at what’s on in St Albans this Christmas.
St Albans Nutcracker Trail
November 21st, 2021 – January 2nd, 2022
For the chance to win a £250 St Albans Gift Card, all you have to do is find 15 Nutcracker Soldiers that have been hidden in and around the city. Once you’ve found them all, put your name down for the free draw with the location of all the soldiers and you could walk away with some extra pocket money to spend this Christmas.
St Albans Cathedral
December, 2021
The Christingle service returns to St Albans Cathedral on December 12th and is completely free to attend. It’s an annual event that uses a symbolic decorated orange to celebrate the joy and love of the world at Christmas time. Candles are lit to represent Jesus Christ’s light during the service, with symbolic value found in each section of the decorated orange. The church will also be holding an Advent Trail from December 1st to December 31st and hosting various online streams throughout the month.
Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs
The Alban Arena, December 10th 2021 – January 3rd, 2022
Christmas time means it’s panto time and Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs come to town at The Alban Arena for 3 weeks. Chizzy Akudolu (Holby, Strictly, EastEnders) stars as the Wicked Queen, with Jonny Weldon as Muddles and local favourite Ian Kirkby returning as Baron Von Badapple. Jimmy Vee, who played R2D2 in the Star Wars films, will also be starring along with 6 other fantastic short actors.
Festive Markets
There are a number of festive markets appearing in St Albans throughout December for locals to enjoy. St Albans Charter Market continues to take place every Saturday and Wednesday at St Peter’s Street and Market Place. St Albans Antique and Vintage Market returns on December 5th on St Peter’s Street, and the Greenwood Park Christmas Market and Singalong takes place on the same from 2-5.30pm. St Albans Farmers’ Market is on December 12th, and the Christmas Charter Market is open every from December 13-24.
Santa’s Post Office
Pop down to Santa’s Post Office again this year, which is open every day at Cath Kidston
in Christopher Place Shopping Centre, 11am to 4pm until December 24th. Children will be able to write their letters and wish lists for Santa, which they can then put into a magical post box, press a button and watch them light up as they begin their journey to Lapland.
Rudolph Run
The Rudolph Run returns as a physical event in 2021, taking place on December 5th at Waterend Barn. Participants are encouraged to dress up in their best festive attire and embark on a 5K or 1.5K run. And if you need antlers to finish the look, the organisers will happily provide them for you. Start times will be staggered between 10-11.30am.
